GRIMSBY slumped to their twelfth game without a win in a gloomy day at Crawley. The Mariners held their own for most of the first half but conceded a penalty for a crude challenge just before the break. In the second half Town were easily picked off for two more goals by Crawley, who ended up 3-0 winners.

Russell Slade made two changes. Karleigh Osborne replaced the injured Danny Collins and Martyn Woolford replaced Jamille Matt.

Both sides had chances in the first half. Wilks produced a good save from Morris and Killip was needed to make a double save to keep Town in the game. But with Town looking like they would make it to half time with the score 0-0 Luke Summerfield brought down Boldewijn in the box and Smith scored from the spot.

Town brought on Kelly for Wilks at half time and the Mariners rarely threatened after the break. Crawley put the game beyond reach when Ahearne-Grant struck with a powerful drive from outside the box. Crawley soon scored a third with a well-worked team goal, Boldewijn chipping Killip for a net finish.

Town took off Vernam for Hooper in another move to weaken the side.

The team were well beaten in the end. The squad is not strong enough, the loan players (those that play) are a slight improvement on the regular side, but the Mariners finished the game with only one loanee on the pitch, as Russell Slade systematically replaced them with his own players. It looks only a matter of time before Slade makes way and someone else is giving the job of getting the best out of this group of players.
