Point Gained at Swindon

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/02/2019

GRIMSBY rescued an unexpected point from Swindon after going a man and then a goal down. The Mariners had been on the back foot virtually all the game prior to the sending off, but when Theo Robinson gave Swindon the lead it looked game over.

The Mariners equalised though with a few minutes thanks to a Luke Hendrie header.

Harry Davis was the only chance to the line-up, replacing Reece Hall-Johnson in the defence.

James McKeown was called into action several times in the first 20 minutes, and Town's shot-stopper kept Grimsby in the game with a series of saves.

Elliot Embleton had Grimsby's best chance, forcing a save from Luke McCormick. But McKeown ended the half on a high making a tremendous double save from Keshi Anderson after the Swindon player raced clear having beaten the offside trap.

It looked like it wasn't going to be Swindon's day when McKeown again made a save early in the second half and Robinson headed over in prime territory. Town only occasionally threatened and a rare counter-attack saw Cook decide to shoot early and not really test the 'keeper.

Öhman was then sent-off for a second yellow card when he blocked an opponent, and Town had to defend even deeper. Robinson soon though gave Swindon the lead when he scored from a rebound after yet another McKeown save.

Town though equalised almost straight away when Embleton picked up the unmarked Hendrie who headed Town back in the game.

Town held on and frustrated Swindon by running the clock down. During a generous 5 minutes injury time Embleton and substitute Kristian Dennis could have both won it for Town but both failed to find the target.

It was in every sense a point gained and would have been even if Town had kept 11 players on the pitch.
